World's Largest Redhead Gathering in North America
Redhead World is working to create a redhead gathering in North America this summer. For the past few years, there has been a lot of demand for a large redhead gathering on this side of the Atlantic for those who can't make the trip to Roodharigendag in the Netherlands.
So, Redhead World is going to dive in with a large gathering, possibly 2,000 or more redheads. We've been in talks with a midwest Celtic festival for several months now. We haven't quite made all the arrangements official yet, so we can't reveal the particular festival or location just yet. The festival council has met to consider our ideas though, and given it an enthusiastic "go." We want to give all of you a "heads up" so you could start planning travel plans.
The event will take place in the United States' midwest region on the weekend of August 8, 2010 with the redhead events currently planned for that day. In addition to a massive redhead gathering and photoshoot, there will be a redhead contest. Redhead World will also have a small information tent set up at the festival so you can stop by to meet me, CelticCurls, and other member volunteers and maybe meet some other redheads in the days leading up to Sunday's big event.
A redhead documentarian whose team is doing a documentary on redheads is attending. They will be filming the various redhead events and conducting some interviews.

Bus boss marks decline of redheads
The boss of a North West bus company is offering free tickets to passengers with red hair.
From next week those with fiery-topped manes can travel free on Strawberry Bus’s routes between Warrington, St Helens, Wigan and Skelmersdale.
It’s to raise awareness of the decline of people born with red hair.
Research shows red and ginger hair colours will die out inside the next 100 years.
The birthplace of some of the most famous red-heads around, such as Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall, Cilla Black and Chris Evans, the North West now has less than two per cent of residents with natural red locks.
Strawberry Bus Managing Director Oliver Howarth said: “At Strawberry we love everything red so when we heard about the decline of red-haired people we wanted to do mark the news with our own tribute to redheads.”
UK scientists are warning that racial integration and migration will reduce the number of people with red hair.
The proportion of redheads is about 2% apart from in Ireland and Scotland where numbers rise to 8%.
People must inherit two specific genes - one from each parent — to have red hair. Chances are small and that’s why there are so few redheads.
Strawberry will offer the Redhead promotion until December 15. Bus drivers will have a colour chart to check passengers qualify. Dyed red hair will also count and drivers will not seek proof that patrons are natural redheads.
"We're not actually checking tops and tails, or anything like that," Mr Howarth said.
“This is a celebration of Strawberries everywhere,” he added.
Strawberry launched its new service last month and provides routes through housing estates and industrial areas not served by larger bus companies.
The company is the brainchild of husband and wife owners Oliver and Lorraine Howarth. “We wanted a name that was fresh and friendly and forward looking,” said Oliver, the UK’s Bus Manager of the Year.
They promise to run a high quality bus operation that builds on their experience in the bus industry.
“Our slogan is berry nice people driving berry good buses. We want to encourage people to think about the environment a bit more, get out of their cars and travel in a more sustainable way. We believe that the way to do that is through listening to local people and offering them new services that meet their needs, are good value and of sustained quality.”
