For years, many of the best and brightest Redheaded musicians have been providing their musical talents to the world. Fans from all over flock to their concerts and events. They are played on radios and iPods in cars, homes and gyms all over. The music of the Redheads is popularly used for relaxation and stress relief, convey a mood of sadness or anger or played to just have fun. As you will see from some of the names on this page, Redheads span all genres of music and are undoubtedly here to stay.

Kirsty MacColl

10th October 1959-18th December 2000. Born Croydon, the daughter of English folk singer Ewan MacColl. Initially signed by Stiff Records, making the UK charts with “A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis”. Best known for her work with The Pogues, particularly the classic “Fairytale of New York”. Never happy with celebrity and Rockstar trappings, Kirsty spent much of her final days working with Cuban musicians. Killed by a speedboat whilst on holiday in Mexico.

Texas born singer/songwriter, influenced by Patsy Cline and Joni Mitchell.

Born 26th August 1966 in Edinburgh. The voice of Garbage, Shirley cut her teeth with Scots post-punk band "Goodbye Mr McKenzie" before hitting global paydirt with every student’s favourite Rock act.

Born New York City. Her debut CD "Pizza" was released in 1998 to critical acclaim.
She has since formed her own record company, Red Kurl Records, and released "My Name's Not Red" in 2001. Once again, the New York and US music press were mightily impressed, describing her lyrics as smart, fun and sexy.

Born Halifax, Nova Scotia 1968. Acoustic folk artist who made her debut LP "Touch" in 1988, an album that went gold in Canada. 

Has gone on to release "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy", "Surfacing", and the live album "Mirrorball". 

Sarah is the creator of Lilith Fair, a tour highlighting female artists that began in 1997, and has gone on to become one of the top draws on the US concert circuit.

Born 31 August 1945 Belfast. Began his career as lead singer with “Them” and has gone on to become one of the most influential recording artists of his generation. Has a reputation as being a grumpy old git, however a Redhead and Proud representative bumped into him in a pub in Chorleywood and he was all sweetness and light.

Born Frankville, Alabama, a Nashville resident since 1983. Hardcore country ballads are Allison’s stock in trade - she was nominated for an Academy Award for her composition “A Soft Place To Fall”, featured in Robert Redford’s 1998 movie hit “The Horse Whisperer”.

Born La Mesa, California 13th Septemer 1961. Former member of Metallica, now frontman and major songwriter of US metal band Megadeth. Megadeth have sold over 20 million records worldwide, and are set to continue on the road to world domination for some time to come.

Born 30th April 1933 Texas. Country music star whose best known albums are 'Shotgun Willie' and 'Phases and Stages'. Has now branched out into TV and film acting, and he starred in 'The Redheaded Stranger', a movie named after one of his own songs.

Born 1968. Canadian musician and songwriter. He was a member of the indie rock bands Superconductor and
Zumpano in the 1990s. Following the breakup of those bands, he re-emerged as the leader of The New Pornographers in  2000. (Their opus 'Sing Me Spanish Techno' is a long-term favourite of the R&P web team.) Has released a solo album as A.C. Newman.

Harry Nilsson

15 June 1941 – 15 January 1994. Brooklyn born singer songwriter who first found worldwide fame by performing "Everybody’s Talkin’", penned by the late Fred Neil.
Respected as a wry, intelligent songwriter, ironically it was the recording of the Badfinger song "Without You" that made Harry and his musical Red Top a household name. A close friend of John Lennon and a famed New York party animal, he and the ex-Beatle spent a year-long "Lost Weekend" during the late 1970’s.

Born 18 June 1989, Houston. U.S. actress and singer who first appeared on TV in the sitcom "Still Standing". 1860 - 1941. Polish composer and pianist whose sensitive playing made him the most popular musician since Liszt.
An ardent patriot and statesman , he briefly headed the Polish government.
He died in the US on a trip attempting to gain support for his country from the American Senate.

The Proclaimers

Brothers Craig and Charley Reid came to prominence in 1988 with their mix of Everly Brothers style and post-punk melodies.
Their big numbers were "Letter From America", and "I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)" which was featured in the 1993 film "Benny and Joon". The Redheaded lads were Top Ten both sides of the Atlantic, but despite a minor hit with a cover version of "King of The Road" they have not troubled the charts since.

Born 1949 California. Multi Grammy winning R&B singer who is the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt. Bonnie’s first hit was the 1972 album 'Give It Up' and since then she has been a permanent fixture in the charts with albums such as 'Nick of Time' and 'Luck of The Draw.

Born Glasgow. After busking around Europe, Eddie entered the crazy world of Rock'n'Roll as backing singer with the superb Gang of Four. Leaving Scotland for London she worked with Alison Moyet and Eurythmics, before forming Fairground Attraction, who hit Number 1 in 1988 with “Perfect”, following up with the platinum selling album “First of a Million Kisses”.
Uneasy with the excesses of the music business, Eddi is now a solo artist, collaborating with fellow folk/rockers Clive Gregson & Boo Hewerdine.

Axelle Red

Born Hasselt, Belgium 1968. Talented singer/songwriter first made the Belgian charts at the tender age of 15 years with her debut single "Little Girls".
She has now fully developed into a Continental pop star. Her first album "Sans Plus Attendre" was a fixture in the Belgian and French charts for over a year. Her most interesting project resulted from an invitation from soul legend Isaac Hayes to record her second album "A Tatons" in Memphis. Perhaps the first and only soul album to be recorded completely in French.

Born Robert Chudnick in Philadelphia, 27th Sept 1927. Be-Bop trumpeter who is best known for playing with Charlie Parker, Red also blew with Jimm Dorsey and Gene Krupa. Still going strong in New York, Red was featured in Clint Eastwood’s Charlie Parker jazzumentary 'Bird' and played his own solos. Cool Daddyo.

Patti Scialfa

Born Deal, New Jersey 29th July 1958. Guitarist/singer and member of New Jersey’s E-Street band, but better known as wife of E-Street gaffer Bruce Springsteen. Now a solo performer in her own right, Patti has recorded and released the album “Rumble Doll”. She is currently performing with the re-united E-Street band, keeping a close eye on The Boss.

Generally regarded as the World’s leading organist. Redhead John has performed to audiences on all five continents. He is Organist and Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral, and durong the year 2000 he pulled out all the stops for the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday celebrations.
He has made many recordings, including works by Mendellsohn, Liszt and Dupre.

Leading light, singer/guitarist and songwriter with My Bloody Valentine. The band were formed in Dublin in 1984, and have gone on to attain cult success. Not exactly prolific, the band enjoy taking their time - the last album "Loveless" released in 1999 took nearly five years to complete.

Beverly Sills

Born 1929. One of the top sopranos of the 20th century. Redheaded Beverly has been acclaimed for making Opera accessible and available to the great unwashed.
Her autobiography, 'Bubbles: A Self-Portrait' was a US best seller.
Now retired from performing, she was the first woman to be in charge of the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts.

Formed "The Rembrandts" with sidekick Danny Wilde in 1990. After many years playing the US club circuit, they hit gold with the song "I'll Be There For You" which was snapped up as the theme music to TV mega show "Friends". Mr. Solem and his bank manager are very happy men. Phil also has time for another project, the band "Thrush".

Born 1963, Glasgow. High profile, militant gay singer-songwriter who gained early success as the voice of Bronski Beat. Went on to form The Communards and is now a solo artist.

Born 13th February 1971, Liverpool. Whilst playing the Liverpool club circuit, she was spotted by record producer Pete Waterman and an impromptu audition secured a recording contract.

Debut single You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You shot to number one in the UK selling a staggering 350,000 copies. Everybody Knows, her debut album sold half a million copies.

In 2003, Sonia took part TV's 'Reborn in the USA'.

Vivian Stanshall

21 March 1943 - 5 March 1995. Born East London. Formed The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band in the mid 1960’s, playing “a mixture of badly played jazz, Dadaism and pop-music parody“.
The band split in 1970, Stanshall going on to create “Sir Henry at Rawlinson’s End”, a project that spawned two albums and a film. Viv’s most commercial work was his contribution to Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells”.
His last years were dogged by drink and drug problems.

We wouldn't like to say Martin is the world's best jazz guitarist, but we reckon he's in the top one. Fantastic solo performances and discs led him to fame in the jazz firmament, and a gig in Stephane Grappelli's band. Has also guested with the likes of Bill Wyman, Chet Atkins, Bryn Terfel, and Dionne Warwick to name but a few. Also has an MBE, having been voted the UK's best jazz guitarist ten times!

Born 2nd October 1971, as Tiffany Renee Darwish, in Norwalk, California. Valley girl, mall-singing Redhead who, for a few short weeks in 1988, became a fully fledged pop phenomena when she made number one with a cover of The Rubinoos' “I Think We’re Alone Now”. Her US career continued long after the fickle UK pop fans tired of her, and Tiffany is still treading the boards Stateside.

1678-1741. A visit to an Italian Restaurant just would not be complete without a CD recording of "The Four Seasons" helping the pasta and chianti down.
Vivaldi, complete with a fine Redtop, worked in Venice during the Baroque period - "The Four Seasons" four concertos depicting the seasons of the year being his most famous work.
And as all Redheads know, it had nothing to do with Frankie Valli.
