14 June 1671 - 17 January 1751. Born Venice. Italian composer. Proficient as a singer and violinist from an early age, Tomaso is best known for his opera, written in 1694, "Zenobia, Regina de Palmireni".

Kooky, left of centre US singer/songwriter who has shifted CDs by the truck full. "Little Earthquakes" and "Under The Pink" are but two of her hit albums. Tori and her superb shoulder length Red locks has a devoted and loyal fanbase who track her every move.

Billie Joe Armstrong

Born 17 February 1972, Rodeo, California. Lead singer and founder of US post-punkers Green Day, although Billie Joe keeps his natural redtop hidden under a rich mixture of hair dye.

Founder member of seminal US rock band Phish. Creator and pioneer of spontaneous music, Trey is now rocking in a solo style.

Melissa Auf Der Maur

Born 17th March 1972, Montreal. Bass player who made her name in Courtney Love's Hole. Melissa left in October 1999 to take over the four string duties at fellow underground rockers Smashing Pumpkins, a post she continued to hold until the Pumpkins split. Or smashed. Whatever.

Krissy's Redtop is a beacon for Chicago-based indie-hopefuls Whimsical, whose influences include Brits The Cure, The Cocteau Twins, Lush, and The Sundays among others.

Ginger Baker

Born plain old Peter Baker on 19th August 1939. It was with the Graham Bond Organisation that Ginger met Jack Bruce, and these two were the rhythm section behind Eric Clapton in Cream, the UKs first "Supergroup".
Cream were one of the most successful and influential bands of the late 1960s. In a refreshing change from buying a trout farm or an island off the West Coast of Scotland, Ginger quit the music business to concentrate on playing polo, returning briefly to the limelight, bizarrely to play with John Lydon’s Public Image Limited.

Andy Bell

Born 25 April 1964, Peterborough, England. With Vince Clarke, the singing half of electro duo Erasure. The pair racked up countless hits in the 1980’, with “Sometimes” being the biggest success.  
The pair went their separate ways, with Andy treading the boards as Judy Garland in the play “The Night We Buried Judy Garland”. Reunited in late 2003, Erasure are back with a new album and more throbbing electro grooves.

Joseph Red Dog Campbell

Born Joseph L. Campbell, Red Dog was the legendary roadie with The Allman Brothers. Back in the early 1970’s the band were constantly gigging, and Red Dog was there carrying amps and carrying on. He has put pen to paper and produced “A Book Of Tails”, a document of its time, graphically reporting all the antics of the road. Red Dog’s wild escapades are the inspiration to the Cameron Crowe directed film “Almost Famous”

Belinda Carlisle

Born 17th August 1958 Hollywood. Lead singer with The Go-Go’s, the first all girl band to top the US charts, Belinda went solo in 1985 and has since peppered the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with hits like “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” and “Live Your Life Be Free”. The Go-Go’s have reformed to deal with unfinished business, “God Bless The Go-Go’s” released in 2001.

Neko Case

Born 8 September 1970, Virginia, USA. Alternative Country artist who as injected the DIY punk ethic into her work. Recorded and performed with her band The Boyfriends, and now fronts The New Pornographers. Neko has turned down approaches from major labels, she continues to record for Mint Records.

Born 2 August 1974 Oklahoma City. Country and Western singer/songwriter who works out of Blanchard, Oklahoma. Difficult to admire Jeremy's head of hair, as he is seldom (ever?) seen without a ten gallon hat.

Born Gene O'Connor. Lead guitarist in The Dead Boys, Stiv Bators' US Punk group. Heavily influenced by Iggy Pop, The Dead Boys told it the way it was from New York during the Punk era. Best remembered for "Sonic Reducer".

Born James Maxwell Collins 28 August 1978 Miami, Florida. Voice and soul behind EvE6, US band sweeping all before them. The hit single “Inside Out” was on the US charts for 40 weeks. More to come.

Brianna Corrigan

Best known for her guest vocals with the Beautiful South, of whom one in every six homes in the UK owns an album. Apparently. Anyway, her wonderful heart-stopping singing voice could surely melt icebergs at 50 paces. And her beautiful Redhair of course.

Bob Crewe

Born 11th December 1931 Newark, New Jersey. One of the most successful record producers of the 1960’s, Crewe wrote and produced hits for The Four Seasons (“Walk Like a Man”, “Rag Doll” etc) as well as many other artists. Last troubled the charts in the mid 1970’s when he co-wrote “Lady Marmalade” a worldwide hit for Labelle.

Along with shoulder pads and the Miners Strike, T’Pau and their number one hit "China in My Hand" brings back everything that was the 1980’s. T’Pau were named after a character from Star Trek, came from Shrewsbury and as far as I know, that’s where they’ve returned to.

Here’s a good pop quiz question to stump your non Redheaded friends. "Who was the first white artist to be signed to Tamla Motown?"
Yes indeed, it was our Kiki. Best remembered of course for her part in the "Don’t Go Breaking My Heart" duet with Elton John, Kiki has had many solo hits both sides of the Atlantic and has also taken her superb locks onto the stage, starring in Willy Russell’s "Blood Brothers". She has enjoyed a long-term musical collaboration with Carmelo Luggeri

Born 25th March 1969, Norwich. A diva of English dance music, Cathy first made the charts with her collaboration with fellow dance act D-Mob. She went on to make solo album "Move To This", again making the pop/dance crossover. Things since went a tad quiet, but we were confident Cathy would be back. And back she came, co-writing the international blockbuster Kylie hit 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'.

Born 19th September 1957 Drummer, percussionist and songwriter with The Rich Kids, the short-lived Power-Pop combo who also featured Glen Matlock and Midge Ure. Rusty went on to embrace the New Romantic era with gusto, becoming a DJ and high profile clubber. A chance meeting with Steve Strange propelled Rusty into Visage, and three years in a Ruff.

Born 12th Sept 1961 Montreal. Possibly the biggest head of hair featured here, Mylene is the French Madonna, selling CDs to 'Tout le Monde'. For the last two years she has cleaned up at the French music awards, and is known by adoring fans as 'The Angel on Earth'.

Born Queensland. Australian based 90's Hi-energy singer who found success with "Ooh, Aah, Just a Little Bit". Other hits include "I Belong To You" and "Gimme Some Love".

1884-1961. Flame haired Italian Opera star who made his name at La Scala in Milan.
Created the role of Fanuel in Nerone, a baritone who was also a great favourite in South America.

Golden-tonsilled part of the Hall & Oates whiteboy soul duo who stormed the pop charts at will during the 1980s. They are the 87th most successful rock act of all time according to Billboard, who know about these things.

Gravel-voiced frontman of 70's glam legends Slade. Has aged gracefully; becoming a respected thespian and refusing to go back on the road with the band. Autobiography 'Who's Crazee Now?' is a good chronicle of an all-conquering band of the 70's.

Born 31st May 1927 Arkansas as James W. Holloway. Red is one of the finest saxophonists of his generation. Red has played with such Jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie and George Benson.

Born 8 June 1960, Manchester. Are there any women out there without any of his cds in their collection? He is, indeed, Simply Red.
 
Began his musical career as a “Frantic Elevator” but the punk life was not for Mick. Formed Simply Red in the early 1980’s and has gone on to great global success.
 
Seldom seen without a great beauty on his arm, one of his more recent projects has been into the wine business. Now owns the vineyard Il Catante on Sicily, and hopes to sell 8,000 bottles of Etna Red each year in the UK.

Luke Kelly

17 November 1940 – 30 January 1984. Born Dublin. Lead vocalist and 5 string banjo player. Founder member of The Dubliners, and widely regarded as the most important and innovative folksinger of his generation. Influenced somewhat by Ewan MacColl. Luke suffered a brain tumour in 1980, never fully recovering. The Luke Kelly Memorial Fund now continues to work in the field of brain research.

Big lunged Scots lass who has defied any sign of ageing. Made her first record in 1964, and is still rocking with the best of them. True, there is some debate to whether red is her natural colour, but what the hell, Lulu is one of us.

Born 15 November 1945 Ballangen, Norway. One of the A's from ABBA, Anna-Frid is the only member to be born outside Sweden. Has kept her hand in with numerous solo albums and projects since the band split up, and has enjoyed solo success in Europe.
